Jaguar service is important for keeping your vehicle safe, but you also want to know what to do in the event of an emergency. Jaguar Bellevue is here to help, with tips for changing flat tires without the worry. Learn how to care for your car and schedule the service that makes the difference at our Seattle-area dealership.

Get to a Safe Location

The first thing to do if your vehicle gets a flat tire is to get out of the way of traffic. If possible, move the vehicle to level ground, to make changing the tire easier and safer. Turn your hazard lights on to keep you and other drivers safe. Once settled, apply the parking brake and chock the tires with wedges, if possible.

Loosen the Lug Nuts

To loosen the lug nuts, you may need to remove a hubcap or wheel cover. Break the resistance of the lug nuts using the lug wrench, but do not remove them all the way. Loosen just ¼ to ½ of a turn.

Jack the Car

Once you get your car’s jack from your trunk, place it under a solid part of the vehicle’s frame near the affected tire. Raise your vehicle so the tire is off the ground about six inches. Do not put any part of your body under the vehicle while jacked.

Remove and Replace the Tire

Continue loosening the lug nuts all the way, then remove the flat tire. Replace the tire with the spare and tighten the lug nuts by hand in a star formation.

Lower and Tighten

Lower the vehicle just until the tire is touching the ground. Use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts the rest of the way. Lower the vehicle all the way and tighten the lug nuts fully, without overtightening.
